FAQs

How much does it cost?

The cost of a commission differs depending on various factors such as size, complexity, consultation time, material cost, and shipping.

After our initial discussion of planning the painting, I will send you the final total cost of the piece based on my calculations.

What payment do you take?

For commissions I receive payment from you through PayPal.

If you don’t have a PayPal account, that’s no problem. I will send you an invoice in which you do not need an account to pay.

What surface do you paint on?

I paint on wood panels supplied by Jackon’s.

I prefer wood to canvas as the final product tends to be more defined since the texture of the surface is smoother.

If you would like your commission painted on a fabric canvas or canvas board instead, we can discuss if this is possible. Please note that doing this may change the dimensions and cost of your commission.

What does the process of getting a commission from you look like?

After you have submitted your commission request through the form on this page (only visible if my status is open), I will get in touch with you for whether I accept your commission request or not. In some cases this might require a further discussion.

We will then have an initial discussion about the composition and colour of the painting, it’s size, and cost. This conversation will start over email but I am happy to chat on Google Meet if you would like. It’s completely up to you.

After we have agreed on these requirements, a total cost will be offered for you to accept or reject.

If you accept this cost, I will send you our agreement contract. Don’t worry, it’s nothing scary. Just a little protection for you and I if anything unprecedented was to happen. You can view this contract here.

Before I paint anything, I request a 50% non-refundable deposit.

Once I have received this deposit, I will order the wood panel of your choice. Once this is ordered you cannot change the size of the panel.

Once this panel has arrived to me, I will paint the underpainting. This is just a wash of colour to represent the light values and composition of the piece.

If you are happy with the underpainting, I will request the remaining 50% of the price.

After full payment is received, I will then start your painting. The exciting part! Each session I do I will send you photographs so you can see the progress of your piece in real time. At each stage we can discuss and, under certain circumstances, amend aspects of the piece subject to a fee. But please bare in mind to trust the process and that there is only so much I am willing to change along the way.

Once finished, I will then wait for the painting to dry completely before varnishing it. Please note this could take up to 4 months depending on the size of your painting. I would expect 1 month for most, though. This is because oil paint dries through oxidation, unlike most other paints that dry through evaporation. This is an important step as if I was to varnish your painting before it has completely dried it risks discoloration, cracking, or an uneven gloss.

Once I have varnished your painting, I will ship the piece to you (please refer to the ‘Shipping Policy’ page).

How long does it take?

The time your commission will take will vary depending on the size and complexity of the painting, as well as the communication between you and I.

Unfortunately I cannot guarantee a certain timeframe but will do my best to make this process as fast as possible whilst still caring for you and your commission.

Things that may affect the time this takes are:

  • Time for your desired wood panel size to arrive to me (1 week)
  • Time to develop the initial idea for your commission request and any adjustments along the way (varies)
  • Time for me to paint the wood panel (varies)
  • Time for oil painting to dry before varnishing (min. 1 month)
  • Postage (please refer to the ‘Shipping Policy’ page)

Can I cancel my commission?

Please refer to the ‘COMMISSION CONTRACT’ page here.

Will you share my commission in your marketing?

I may use your commission in my marketing and promotional content.

By commissioning a piece from me you accept that I hold the copyrights to this piece.

If a written request is sent to me to not share this commission then we may be able to discuss these boundaries and come to an agreement. However, I hold the right to reject this request.

Are there any Terms & Conditions?

Yes, you can view the Agreement Contract here.

You will sign these conditions in our after your commission request has been accepted.
