'Apples for August'

In April of 2025 I was asked to paint the poster for the play
'Apples for August' written by Anushka Kar

And after reading the script on the train,
I immediately said yes and started sketching ideas.

Laura Grace Dhillon, the Stage Manager for its New York debut,
describes the play:
"Set in a secluded apple orchard in upstate New York, Apples for August follows the unfolding relationship between August, a perceptive high school senior, and Jude, an aspiring artist about to begin college.
Through a series of charged and vulnerable conversations, the play explores themes of identity, visibility, memory, and the weight of being known.
As their bond grows, so do the quiet struggles that follow an interracial love — and the aching weight of what it means to be fully seen."

After analysing the play's metaphors and intricacies,
and having been granted total creative freedom,
I developed a sketch that subtly addressed all important story markers,
with composition, colour, and paint style to match.
It's a simple piece, but with every detail intentional and meaningful.

From the moment I read the script I was captivated and I feel so incredibly lucky to have been a part of this project.
I can't spoil it, but I can share some voice acting snippets from the original play - watch below..
